From Humble Handcraft and Atlas Vans into the woodshop.
Ryan O’Donnell’s work has moved through tiny homes, off-grid systems, van interiors, cabinetry, and years of problem solving in small spaces. Sun Sawn is the next turn: bringing that craft back toward the original pull — wood, furniture, and honest interiors.
Atlas remains proof of craft. Humble Handcraft remains the root. Sun Sawn is where the work is headed.
Built with the material in mind.
The studio favors sustainable and ethically sourced wood, reclaimed and old-growth material when appropriate, wool, denim, hemp, marmoleum, and low/no-VOC finishes. The goal is not just a good-looking object, but a healthier interior that feels grounded.

A Ventura shop powered by craft, heavy machines, and sunlight.
The shop is being shaped around old iron and capable machines: a 24” Oliver spiral-head planer from a Los Angeles high school woodshop, a refurbished 1928 Y30 Snowflake bandsaw from the San Diego Navy woodshop, a 16” Northfield jointer, and a solar-powered container system intended to run much of the shop.
Have a project, a space, or a piece of wood in mind?
Sun Sawn is taking shape around custom work, available material, and a small number of carefully chosen projects.
